In New Zealand, the academic year runs from mid- to late-February to early-November. Most universities offer a four-week break in June between each pair of semesters. Most programs offer admissions in February and July, however some sometimes do so in September. If one wishes to get the most out of their education in New Zealand, they must be fluent in English. You can take a variety of courses from the nation, as well as from its colleges and other educational institutions, to get to the necessary level of English proficiency. Typically, a New Zealand student visa is valid for 4 years. A student visa is required for anyone planning to study in New Zealand for more than three months. The following requirements must be met in order to obtain a student visa:

• possess a scholarship offer from a university recognized by the New Zealand Qualifications Authority, or NZQA
• If you are under 18, you will require a documented promise that you have a place to stay from someone or some organization.
• proof of enough money for you to live on while you’re studying
  a return airline ticket, or evidence of sufficient finances to cover one
• If you will be staying in New Zealand for longer than six months, you must be tuberculosis screened.
• If you are over the age of 17, you must provide a police certificate attesting to your good moral character.
• All that is required for courses lasting less than three months is a tourist visa.
• You may work up to 20 hours per week while enrolled in a programme that lasts 12 months or more.
